About Her Blog:
Tell us about your Blog.
I started BookChat in June 2013 to share the books I love reading through reviews, as well as to promote the authors of those books. To this end, I do not post any review that I give less than three stars.
I have expanded to reblogging interesting posts that fit into the topic of writing. Occasionally, I enter challenges such as the A to Z Challenge (check out my blog to see how much fun I had with the A-Z). As the proud mom of three sons and grandmother to three grandsons and one granddaughter, you will find an occasional, and hopefully not too obnoxious, post about…

Managing the Author-Editor Relationship: Guest Post by Laura Walker
Thought provoking article.
I have been working with Lorelei Logsdon, my editor, for two years now. When I first sent her my manuscript, I was worried what her reaction might be. Thankfully, we hit it off right away, and I now know first-hand the importance of finding an editor who both understands your vision and helps realize it
This is a guest post by (the lovely) Laura Walker, one of Reedsy’s content creators, that examines the relationship between author and editor. Interestingly enough, it provides us with the editor’s point of view.
Reedsy is a digital publishing startup that aims to connect authors with professionals like editors, designers etc.
How new authors can manage the author-editor relationship
A writer’s manuscript is like an appendage of their soul. The heart and labor that goes into creating a novel from fragments of the mind and personal experiences is astounding and incredibly hard work. That’s why it’s…

Ode to Social Media
A humorous, but true, look at social media.
(With no hint of irony at all…)
Oh social media, how I love you
Your silly, modern ways.
A place to be a socialite
Across the World Web waves.
To check in your location
Refresh the News Feed page.
To tag and crop a photograph
To create your very own stage.
A place to share and have a laugh
Or for sympathy to seek.
Make of it all what you will
Any day of your long, dull week.
A world to stalk celebrities
From the comfort of your own home.
Or just to find that other folk
Have a life as ordinary as your own.
Status updates, like and link
A profile for all to see.
Nothing’s sacred anymore
But who cares? It’s all for free.
Tell whoever wants to know
All about your life.
Communicate your deepest thoughts
From the sofa to your wife.
Collect up lots of friends…

You all know how much I love short stories, right? Well, enough to have published two collections so far, Infinite Waters being the latest one.
I recently entered a new short story of mine in a competition organized by Almond Press. While on their Dystopian Stories site, I noticed they have this great page with all sorts of short story competitions, with prizes up to $14,000. Naturally, I had to share.
And if you’re looking to get your short story published, check with my publisher friend Dan Dombrowski: he’s looking for stories to include in the next issue of his excellent Nonlocal Science Fiction Magazine.

Anna
By Fia Essen
Book Blurb
Radical life changes and too much champagne at high altitude can take a girl to the most interesting places. Anna’s journey is just getting started when she takes a chance on a new friendship of the handsome male variety and winds up in a tiny village in Crete. It turns out she’s not the only one who has that idea.
Author’s Description
Anna thought she knew exactly where her life was heading. She was wrong. After ten years of climbing her way up the stressful corporate ladder at Milton International, her dream of one day occupying her boss’ corner office has been ripped from her thanks to a round of downsizing. Her boyfriend of five years has dumped her because he didn’t think she shared his vision of their “ideal future” together. In addition to losing her job and boyfriend, she comes to the conclusion she might be losing her mind too. A sane person wouldn’t follow a perfect stranger they meet on a plane to a tiny village no one has heard of on a Greek island, would they? The stranger in question is an irresistibly handsome Englishman with a sympathetic ear. But that’s no excuse to follow him to the place he calls his home and practically move in with him, is it?
My Review
Have you ever read a book that you liked so much from the beginning, you actually felt you were part of the story? A book where you could visualize the area, the rooms? Were you ever so engrossed you in the story, you didn’t realize you were at the end until you read the last word? That is exactly what Anna was to me.
Fia Essen wove a story that was alive with delightful characters and a captivating plot. The location? Who wouldn’t fall in love with the charismatic Crete, as so vividly described in the book? I loved the way the characters dropped into Anna’s life and immediately became indispensable to the rest of the story.
Would I recommend Anna by Fia Essen? Absolutely! It is the perfect read for a summer day on the porch, at the pool, or at the beach. 5 Stars
About the Author
Fia Essen has been an expat since childhood. She grew up in the stables of the Middle East and Southeast Asia, surrounded by horses, philandering polo players, and the occasional Boa Constrictor. Currently, she lives in Athens, Greece with her Yorkie.
She has always had an active imagination and has a tendency to float off into a world of her own. While she doesn’t put a terrible amount of stock into astrology, apparently, this trait of hers is textbook Pisces.
Growing up, if Fia wasn’t on horseback, she had her nose in a book. She didn’t read books, she lived them. Characters in novels became her best friends. And ultimately she started creating her own.
